Our typefaces are News Plantin and Gotham.
The brand guidelines detail when and how the fonts should be used, but as a rule of thumb:
- Gotham Thin or Gotham Medium can be used for headings, and should always be in uppercase
- Gotham Medium or News Plantin Bold can be used for secondary titles
- News Plantin Regular and Italic are used for body copy
Downloading the fonts
The fonts are available to Societies through your Google G Suite. For details on how to access this please click here.
After downloading the fonts, the three Gotham variations will appear in your fonts under Gotham Book, Gotham Medium and Gotham Thin. News Plantin will only be listed once – for the italicised and emboldened versions please use the buttons in the formatting menu, as you would when formatting other fonts.
If you are creating documents to be viewed on someone else’s computer, or for example on a laptop used for Society meetings, you will need to consider if they have the fonts installed. If not, the documents may appear differently when opened on those computers. In these instances it would be advisable to use the alternative fonts (Times New Roman and Verdana), which are compatible with all computers, or to install the fonts on the computer beforehand.
Alternative fonts
When Gotham and News Plantin are not available, Times New Roman can be used to replace News Plantin, and Verdana can replace Gotham.
